Announcements Within Our Muslim Community
. Looking for the First Muslim Candidate for Rhode Island State Congress
RICMA PAC (Rhode Island Council for Muslim Advancement – Political Action Committee) issued a statement that its time for Muslims to be represented in State Legislature.  To further strengthen RI Muslim unity, we want to support a respectable Muslim candidate that would best strengthen our unity at this stage of our community’s development.  This is a historic event as no Muslim ever ran for State Congress. Regarding cost, we already have pledges for the full cost of the campaign, the candidate will not bear any expenses. About training: We will send our candidate to the RI Leadership Course that teaches in detail how to execute a winning campaign.  PAC leaders and many of our State’s Governors, Mayors, Senators and Representatives graduated from this crucial course. About voter base: Our research indicates that we have a significant voter base in specific districts and together with a coalition building strategy our candidate would be a serious contender for a Congress seat. About chances of winning: As an indication of how an articulate well-educated well-accomplished Muslim candidate would have a great chance of winning serves the fact that a considerable number of current RI State congressmen/women have a below college education. An ideal candidate would be: Articulate, with a great character, and preferably college educated; Available to meet his/her constituents in a variety of settings and times; Have a public service background (i.e. administration, military, education, police, fire dept., health care, interfaith, charitable, sports, party participation, or any other community involvement) – public service background can be built over time if you do not have it and it need not be extensive. The next election cycle for RI State Congress is in two years and we are looking to start training and preparing prospective Muslim candidates now.  Anyone interested?  Contact Zack Syed at pac@ricma.org to nominate yourself or someone else inshaAllah.
