Beneficial Announcements for Oct 2015
1. Update on Building Purchase of Malden Islamic Center
Malden Islamic Center had secured required funds of $1,725,000 from an Islamic bank and $300,000 in donations to purchase a building for their masjid. The masjid committee members informed the seller and his attorney that they are ready to close on Oct 1. To their surprise, the seller and his attorney failed to show up for the closing. They later claimed there is an oil leak in the building. The masjid committee members suspect the seller may have changed his mind. The center is planning to take their case to the court as the seller violated his legal responsibility in the contract. The community is requested to make dua for the successful outcome of this tense situation.

What are the origins of this institution and what roles did religion play? What is Islam’s position on slavery and what did that translate to in the Muslim world? Does slavery still exist today and, if so, in what forms? Is concubinary and sex slavery condoned by religious traditions? Do the recent claims to Islamic slavery hold any weight?
