Beneficial Announcements for July 2015
1. Eidul Fitr Expected to Fall Next Fri or Sat
According the local moonsighting methodology, the Eidul Fitr is expected to fall next Fri (7/17) or Sat (7/18). Muslims will be looking for the hilal with their naked eye on the night of July 16 and reporting their findings to hilal committes such as Central Hilal Committee of North America and Hilal Sighting Committee of North America. An announcement will be made by these hilal committees later in the night of July 16 to confirm if Eid falls on July 17 or 18. For more info on the beginning of Ramadan, contact http://hilalcommittee.org/ or http://hilalsighting.org

“Fundraiser for Renovations at Masjid As-Salam”
We are short of funds to complete the ongoing projects, that’s why we are organizing this fund raising again. There were code complications and high costs involved in expanding the existing Masjid building, therefore we decided to expand it to the next door building that consists of street-to-street building on the first floor and four apartments on the second and third floors. Alhamdulillah, the construction project was completed, Certificate of Occupancy by the City of Albany was obtained and the space was started to be used from the first day of the last Ramadan. Alhamdulillah, a few months ago we bought another building next-to-next to the Masjid, at 270 Central Ave. This was a 3-storey Albany School Building, very solidly built, street-to-street building. Our plan is to renovate it for Masjid’s schooling programs. Renovation work has already started and three large classrooms are already completed. We will be very delighted and honored if you could kindly accept our invitation and make it to this fund raising dinner.
Time: 8:30pm – 10:00pm
Place: Masjid As-Salam, 276 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12206 Contact: Masjid phone 518-463-6275 or 518-482-3456

“Iftar with Muslim Justice League ”
Founded last summer in Boston, the Muslim Justice League defends against harmful “war on terror” policies and educates and organizes Muslim communities to advance human and civil rights. In our first year, we have provided free legal representation for persons approached by the FBI for voluntary interviews, presented numerous “Know Your Rights” trainings at mosques and community-based organizations, advocated to government officials, and supported community leaders in their responses, against misguided and dangerous “countering violent extremism” initiatives. In February, the org was approved for seed funding from the Harvard Law School Public Service Venture Fund to hire our full-time executive director after Ramadan. We hope you can join us so we can get to know you and share more about this organization. No advance cost. Guests will cover their own dinner expenses by ordering from the menu.
